The Cleaning Services Award 2020 has three classification levels, which are summarised below.

Cleaning Services Employee

Cleaning Services Employees are responsible for keeping buildings clean and hygienic through a variety of tasks like vacuuming, mopping and dusting. As they move up levels, they take on more complex instructions, perform higher-level maintenance and may supervise and train other cleaners.

  • Cleaning Services Employee Level 1 - A Cleaning Services Employee Level One (CSE 1) is someone who handles basic cleaning tasks like vacuuming, mopping, dusting and rubbish collection, usually with some guidance and within their skill set. They’re responsible for making areas clean and hygienic, whether working alone or in a team.
  • Cleaning Services Employee Level 2 - A Cleaning Services Employee Level Two (CSE 2) typically performs advanced cleaning tasks, works from complex instructions and helps train others. They might do some repairs, order supplies, handle customer relations and operate specialized equipment like ride-on machinery or pressure washers.
  • Cleaning Services Employee Level 3 - A Cleaning Services Employee Level 3 is a supervisor who manages other cleaners, ensures quality work, follows complex instructions and helps with training and maintenance issues in the building.

Key Changes to Cleaning Services 2024 Pay Rates

Updated Hourly Rates for Cleaning Services Employees

As of 1 July 2024, the Cleaning Services Award pay rates have increased by 3.75%. This means that all employees covered are entitled to a pay rise. You can find the updated pay rates in the pay rate viewer. Make sure to update your payroll systems to reflect these changes, to avoid underpayment.

Updated Allowances in the Cleaning Services Award
